Getting There | • From the South: Drive to Rainbow Beach and then continue to Inskip Pt. Take the Manta Ray barge from Inskip Pt and then, preferably around the time of the low tide, drive up the beach to Happy Valley (about 1 hour). • From the North or West: Book with Kingfisher Barges leaving from River Heads. Drive to Hervey Bay and then take the barge from River Heads. Drive across the island and then, preferably around the time of the low tide, drive up the beach to Happy Valley (about 1.5 hours). DO NOT trust Google maps - it doesn't recognise the eastern beach as a road and so will take you via the inland roads - much longer and slower and difficult! Drive up the ramp and continue into Happy Valley - you will see Fraser Island Retreat ahead of you on the right at the intersection. Turn right and park on the right. You can also get there by air - contact Air Fraser. Remember that you MUST have a 4WD vehicle to access K'gari (Fraser Island). Drive on the beach around the low tide - check the tides and download tide tables here: http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/tides/#!/qld-waddy-point-kgari You must also have a valid Vehicle Permit (number plate recognition is now operating) - book that online here: https://qpws.usedirect.com/QPWS/Default.aspx |
Parking | Parking is readily available on the street opposite the shop, with a short walk via some steps to your room. |
Things To Do | World Heritage listed K'gari (Fraser Island) is a unique natural environment that has developed over 800,000 years. It is the largest sand island in the world and one of the rare places where rainforest grows on sand. The island offers a vast amount to enjoy and explore from crystal blue lakes to green, mossy forests. Enjoy the abundant native flora and fauna by taking a walk amongst the beautiful and majestic eucalypts, blooming banksia and coastal pandanus, while watching out for the large variety of birds and mammals. |
