Things To Do | Toowoomba is known as the Garden City and hosts the well known Carnival of Flowers held every year in September. It is situated in the Darling Downs region of southern Queensland, Australia. Places and events of interest are as follows: 1. Parks Go for a picnic or take a walk through one of Toowoomba's many beautiful parks. They're beautiful any time of year.There's the Japanese Gardens at the University of Southern Queensland, Laurel Bank Park, Queens Park (which includes the botanical gardens), Lake Annand, the Newtown State Rose Garden and Picnic Point, which is located on the edge of the Great Dividing Range. 2. Cobb and Co Museum Cobb and Co Museum is part of the Queensland Museum and home to the National Carriage Collection. As well as Cobb and Co Coaches, the collection includes examples of a vast range of vehicles from the horse-drawn era, from farm wagons and delivery carts to the Rolls Royce of Carriages, the Iandau. There's lot's to see and do - you can take part in or watch the Hands on Workshops. 3. Region's best waterfalls or pools The Crows Nest Falls waterhole is closed off, but you can explore The Cascades Pool, Kauyoo Pool and Bottlebrush Pool in Crows Nest National Park. Queen Mary Falls at Killarney is an amazing sight and is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. 4. Rudd's Pub Everyone visiting the Darling Downs should visit Rudd's Pub in Nobby. It was originally built in 1893 and known as the Davenporter Hotel. Legend has it that Steele Rudd, author of the famous Dad and Dave stories, sat by the fireplace at the Davenporter to write. In his honour the pub's name was changed to Rudd's Pub in the 1980s. Rudd's pub is like a museum, with photos and memorabilia on display, as well as tools, farming equipment and books. Rudd's Pub is at 45 Tooth Street, Nobby. 5. Jondaryan Woolshed The Woolshed at Jondaryan has a relaxed, rural atmosphere. You can go on a self-guided tour of the Woolshed and the museum village, enjoy a delicious meal at the Woolshed Café Restaurant or visit the Damper Hut for an Australian-style Devonshire Tea and Ploughman's Lunch. 6. Art in Toowoomba The Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery has great works on display. Other galleries are Tosari Galleries in Margaret St, The GRID in Ruthven St, the USQ Arts Gallery at Artsworx, the Toowoomba Art Society in Godsall St, Kontraband Studios in Laurel St and The Met Toowoomba Gallery in Russell St. 7. Go bush walking You can go to Table Top Mountain, Ravensbourne National Park or Crows Nest National Park, where you can have a bird's-eye view of the Valley of the Diamonds at Koonin Lookout. 8. DownsSteam Railway Displays Toowoomba's rail history; locomotives include Locomotive 106, the Pride of Toowoomba and The Neil Mansell Explorer (The Drayton Bell). See downssteam.com for details. 9. Royal Bulls Head Inn This unique historical landmark was built by ex-convict William Horton, who previously worked for the famous explorer Henry Stuart Russell of Cecil Plains. Timber buildings of this age are rare in Queensland and are worth a visit. The Royal Bulls Head Inn is located in Brisbane St, Drayton. 10. From Paddock to Potager The Paddock to Potager aim is to increase knowledge of where food comes from through on-farm tours, after school lessons, workshops and more. This concept was introduced to pass on farming skills especially to the younger generations. 11. Music There are lots of places in the CBD to listen to music. The Spotted Cow regularly have live music and bands, Ground Up has started music events in the laneway near the coffee shop, Bon Amici's in Margaret St has Open Mike Night and Owie Paroz plays at FItzy's, 12. Australian Army Flying Museum The museum has 22 aircraft on display and more under restoration, it boasts an impressive collection of wartime memorabilia. The Australian Army Flying Museum is situated about 4km past Oakey, at the Army Aviation Centre. 13. Markets There are lots of markets in Toowoomba. PCYC Markets, each Sunday at the PCYC in James St, the Toowoomba's Farmers Markets is once a month at the Toowoomba Showgrounds, weekly farmers market each Thursday at the Empire Theatre, the Margaret St Markets once a month and The Handmade Expo. There are also markets in Highfields, Cabarlah, Queens Park Craft Market and Murphys Creek 14. Lakes and Dams Spend a day out and about at one of the region's lakes or dams. Cooby Dam is a great place to relax and it's got some good fishing spots. Cressbrook Dam is great for fishing too, with a children's playground, excellent barbecue areas and picnic areas. You can't fish or boat at Lake Perserverance, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do - there's barbecue areas, 15. Toowoomba Waterbird Habitat The area is home to a variety of waterbirds including magpies, crested pigeons, darter, dusky moorhens, cormorants, ibis', butcherbirds, cockatoos, purple swamp hens, ducks, plovers and more. It's located in Rangeville, off Mackenzie St. 16. Historical walk in Russell St There is some fine historic architecture in Toowoomba's Russell St. You can take yourself on a self-guided walking tour and see the buildings, many of which date back to the 1860s. The walk starts at the Railway Station on Railway St, continues west to Kensington St and then turns east to the stately shop fronts in the city centre. Buildings of note include the Hotel Norville, Toowoomba's Regional Art Gallery and City Hall and the Whitehorse Building (1912). Terms and Conditions | FLYING SPUR MOTEL TERMS AND CONDITIONS Flying Spur Motel Terms & Conditions are set out for the safety and enjoyment of all guests staying. Failure to adhere to our terms and conditions may result in reservation cancellation or eviction. A copy of these can be provided on request; however they are also on display at reception, in unit compendiums and on our website. Please read these terms & conditions carefully. By accessing and using the Flying Spur Motel website, receiving a confirmation email or entry into our reception or motel units, you agree that your access to and use of Flying Spur Motel is subject to these terms and conditions. The person booking and checking into the unit(“the Guest”), signing these conditions acknowledges and agrees that these conditions apply and extend to any person (referred to as “Visitor”) occupying or visiting Flying Spur Motel complex and/or using the facilities in the complex at the invitation of or with the authority of the Guest. Guests agree to pay all charges incurred by them and their Visitor during their stay including loss or damage to the unit. All personal information collected from you is maintained securely and is required to meet the requirements of Australian Federal or State legislation regarding the maintenance of a guest register, for fire safety reasons, for accounting and billing purposes and to market our services to you. We will not make this personal information available to any third party without your prior consent. However by signing the guest registration form you agree to allow us to pass on to persons we deem appropriate your details should you or your visitors; Such as but not limited to Fail to settle your account Smoke in the room Room degradation (such as vomit, bodily wastes) General damage to motel property, fittings, fixtures All non-standard cleaning charges And or any problem sufficient to result in a room being withdrawn from its availability to let. We will not knowingly permit any misuse of this data. You may request access to personal information we hold about you. If you do not provide us with this information, we may be unable to provide you with accommodation. Prior to Checking in You may request a unit inspection as we are not required to provide a refund due to change of mind. We do not guarantee availability of an early check in unless you book and pay for the unit for the night prior to your early arrival. Check out Check out at the end of the occupancy is strictly 10am (unless special arrangements are made). Your agreed departure after that time may incur additional charges of $25per/hr or part thereof. Maximum Occupancy Only the number of people designated on booking or check-in may stay in the unit overnight. You will be advised of the maximum occupancy per unit. Any extra people will be advised to leave. Due to law and fire safety regulations only the maximum occupancy is allowed. Rates and charges Full payment is due on arrival to the motel. We accept master card, visa, JCB, amex and cash only. Personal Cheques are NOT accepted. Rates quoted on Flying Spur Motel website are in AUD and are subject to change at any time. Rates are inclusive of GST, they do not include meals, transfers or incidental charges (eg. phone, internet etc). Minimum length of stay restrictions may apply to certain dates during special event periods. Credit Card/Bond Flying Spur Motel requires supply of valid credit card details and/or Bond Money, driver’s license & vehicle registration. If in the course of a guest’s stay during period of use, and/or any visitors of the guest to that unit and complex any unforeseen expenses become apparent the guest’s account/credit card will be charged an amount appropriate to the expense, at a rate determined by the management of Flying Spur Motel. In the case of a bond, the bond funds will be held until such time that all costs associated with the said expenses are recovered. Fees chargeable to guest accounts may include, but are not limited to Damage due to: Smoking in units – all units are non-smoking, ashtrays are provided for use in outside areas only with doors closed. – Unit degradation (such as vomit, bodily waste, general damage, pet/animal, excessive cleaning and rubbish) – Stolen or damaged unit items- Lost or stolen keys – $20 replacement and cost of change of lock. Any problem sufficient to result in the unit being withdrawn from its availability to be let ie: an un-saleable condition, extra daily room tariffs may be charged based on business demand at the discretion of the managers. Refunds. No shows - will be subject to a 100% cancellation fee (1 nights’ accommodation) No refunds for room changes No refunds for early departures or change of mind No refunds given after check-in. Keys You agree to return the key for the unit at the time of your departure or place in early departure box at reception. You agree to pay associated charges for the replacement of keys/locks should you lose or fail to return them. The responsibility to lock the unit is the guests upon departure/absence. The unit must be left securely locked upon check out and the key(s) returned to reception or early drop box. Inspections The Managers may inspect the motel unit(s) at any time without notice should the managers opinion be that there is has been or is likely to be a breach of these terms and conditions. Eviction Managers reserve the right to evict guests staying who have caused or are causing damage or disruption to the motel and its guests. If the occupancy ends or is terminated, the Guest must immediately vacate the premises. The Manager is authorised to do whatever is required to enforce the eviction of any Guest and removal of Guests property. Refusal of Entry Managers reserve the right to refuse return guests who have caused damage or disruption to the motel and its guests on a previous stay and/or guests who have been evicted from other accommodation providers for same reasons or criminal behaviour. Also underage guests will be denied access to the motel unless accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian for the duration of their stay. Tenancy Regardless of your length of stay there is no tenancy or other rights created under any laws and there are no such laws that apply to your stay. We grant you a license to stay in our units for the time of occupancy stated. Child policy Infants under 2 years with own Fold Out Cot – no charge. Children 2 years and over are charged at the extra person rate of $20.00. Unaccompanied minors All guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. In instances where it is necessary that an minor Must be accommodated, a Responsibility Waiver must be provided by the legal guardian. The property has the right to refuse any booking, when the legal guardian over 18 cannot provide current photo ID when requested on check-in. Party policy Zero tolerance party policy. In the interest of quiet enjoyment and respect for all guests at the motel, a no party policy applies to all guests staying at the property. Guests are expected to be respectful of other guests at all times, and to be quiet between 10pm-7am. The property must not be used for unlawful purposes. Warnings: If the guest receives a warning or the occupancy is terminated and the guest fails to comply with the vacation notice the manager will be authorised to do whatever is legally required to enforce the eviction on any Guest and the removal of the Guest’s property. Swimming Pool For consideration of all guests swimming pool hours are between 7.30am – 10.00pm Cancellation Policy The guest can cancel free of charge until 24 hours prior to arrival. The guest will be charged the first night if they cancel within 24 hours prior arrival. No shows will be charged one nights accommodation. Valid credit card details are to be provided at time of booking. A modification/cancellation to a reservation MUST be made via email or hard copy. We reserve the right to offer alternative accommodation of a similar standard or full refund in the event of overbooking the Flying Spur Motel or for any unforeseen circumstances, giving as much notice as reasonably possible. Pets With the exception of Sight and Hearing assistance dogs, ALL pets are strictly forbidden inside guest rooms. Any guests breaching this rule will face immediate eviction and a $200 cleaning fee for carpet and any soft furnishin effected. Pets in vehicles/trailers may only be permitted by prior specific arrangement. Show Dogs will only be permitted by prior specific arrangement. A maximum of two (2) dogs will be permitted for any one booking. Guests with more than two dogs (other than those in a purpose built dog trailer) will not be permitted to park on the Motel grounds. Barking dogs will not be tolerated and will result in guests and their dogs being evicted from the motel, with no refund of monies. Cooking Cooking in guest rooms is strictly forbidden by Health Authorities with the exception of the use of the kettle and toaster. Fees for additional cleaning may apply should guest cook inside a guest room. Fire Due to Fire regulations, Management must be aware of number of guests in rooms and their identification. NO CANDLES OR OPEN FLAMES ARE PERMITTED. Should the Fire Alarm be activated, the cost of Emergency Services (Toowoomba Fire Services) attending, will be charged to the guest. Smoking All rooms are non-smoking. Penalties will be charged to guests who smoke in rooms. (see Fees chargeable to guest accounts) Guest Feedback We request you to provide feedback either through your used online booking agent (eg booking.com etc), Tripadvisor or directly to management of the Flying Spur Motel. Complaints Policies are in place to help control possible problem issues and we do all that is possible to avoid complaints, however should you have a complaint, please bring the issue to the attention of reception or managers as soon as the problem has/is occurring. If there are disturbances in the motel, we cannot try to do anything unless we are made aware of the problem at the time; by bringing the problem to our attention the following day, the best we can do is apologise for other people’s behaviour. Through discussing your concern(s) and the courses of action available, we hope to put things right straight away or alternatively, explain why they are not able. If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved in discussion, you may advise the manager that you are not satisfied and provide written details of your complaint. The manager will provide a written response within seven days of receiving your written complaint. Incidents/Accidents Please call 000 in emergencies. Alert Reception and/or management. An incident report form must also be completed. Valuables You agree any monies or other valuables, goods or vehicles that belong to you, brought in or on to the units, grounds or car-park remain your responsibility and we will not be responsible for their safekeeping. No responsibility is taken for any property left by a guest at the premises (Please check all wardrobes and drawers before vacating the property). Notice about loss of Guest’s Property – Traveler Accommodation Providers (Liability) Act 2001 Under the Act, an accommodation provider may be liable to make good any loss of a guest’s property in certain circumstances even though the loss is not caused by the fault of the accommodation provider, or the provider’s agent. The strict liability of the accommodation provider under the Act • applies only to a guest of the accommodation provider on a day when an accommodation unit is provided for the use of the guest • is limited to $250 for each accommodation unit provided for the use of the guest on the day, unless the guest’s property was placed in safe custody facilities • does not cover motor vehicles and things owned by the guest left in or on motor vehicles.
