Stout's Island Lodge - Birchwood

***PLEASE NOTE - We are open seasonally from May to October***

Welcome to Stout's Island Lodge booking page! Here are a few tips for using this search engine to find room availability:

Don't Enter a Check-Out Date
The search engine works best if you DO NOT enter a check out date. This will show you the availability of all rooms, not just the ones available for your specific check in and check out dates.

If a cabin says "Sold" that is because one or more of the individual rooms has been rented in that cabin. However, you are still able to reserve other rooms in that cabin individually, as long as they show as available in the system.

Also, many of our rooms can only accommodate two adults, so if you are having trouble seeing any rooms, it may be because all the rooms that can accommodate three or more adults have been booked. Try searching for a room for just two adults, and it is possible we can add an air mattress to accommodate extra guests. Rates are based on maximum recommended occupancy. There is a $25 charge per night for each additional guest over 12 years old. Airbeds and pack 'n' plays are available upon request.

We’ve implemented a flat 15% service fee on all reservations and food and beverage purchases while on the island, so you don't have to tip team members individually.

We look forward to your visit and thank you for your business.

About Us

Built in 1903 by Frank D. Stout as a summer estate for his family, this Adirondack-style lodge mixes high architectural details with arts & crafts-style construction for a timeless rustic elegance that is sure to leave you in awe. Surrounded by cabins named for Frank D. Stout’s children and their mother on an 18-acre island in the middle of Red Cedar Lake., the lodge stands apart from typical North woods destinations. Fireplace carvings imported from Italy and beautiful wood carvings and floorboards imported from Germany, Stout spared no expense building his Island of Happy Days—a name engraved on the stone steps of the entrance to this marvel structure.

Stout’s Island Lodge offers accommodations to suit every need. Our forty-three rooms range from cozy and affordable dwellings to suites with full kitchens and private porches that exemplify show-stopping rustic luxury. There is no shortage of diversity in our room selections.

Every building on the island is cloaked in historic charm. This isn’t your average cookie-cutter resort: this is akin to being asked to spend time at Gatsby’s summer home. Authentic character and original features abound, including wood-burning fireplaces and stunning woodwork.

All rooms feature private entrances and private bathrooms, and every guest is welcome at our complimentary continental breakfast.

Relish the fresh, locally grown organic ingredients and exquisite flavors of Stout’s Island Restaurant. Some ingredients are even grown right on the island! Our menus change frequently based on seasonal selections, and our dishes always have that north woods flair. Enjoy spectacular views of the South or North lawn or the warmth of our wood-burning fireplace right from your table.

In the evenings the standard is business casual (button-downs, polo shirts, slacks, blouses, skirts, etc.). Jeans and shorts that are not worn, torn, or distressed in any way may be worn during dinner as well. Caps and hats are not allowed at anytime. It is our goal to provide the finest dining experience possible and therefore we ask all our guests to make the best possible effort to adhere to this dress code. However, we still wish for you to relax and enjoy your meal with us--please ask us if you have any questions or concerns.
